How can a photograph make you feel? Does it tell a story without words? Can it transport your mind to another place and time? If so, it's a powerful photograph and a gift to viewers...or sometimes just a gift to yourself. This photo remains one of my favorites because of how it makes me feel.
It was not an incidental moment in time. I watched weather reports, temperature and wind predictions, and compass readings for sunrise to determine the exact conditions and location I wanted for this photo. My neighbor was incredibly kind and patient, allowing me to direct her into position for the series. I left nothing to chance.
This became my first image used in a poster. Business practices and contracts became very important as more people wanted to use the image for a variety of purposes. In Photo 1: An Introduction to the Art of Photography I discuss various kinds of business contracts, model releases, usage rights, and copyright law. Anyone interested in earning money from their photographs need this information to keep heir photos safe!
