I have a terrible sweet tooth, so the most challenging part of this photo was leaving the candy on the small plate! This was a studio photograph taken with a large format (4x5) camera. You could just as easily do it with a 35mm camera, but you need to make sure your camera's back is parallel with the candy surface. Otherwise you will feel like you're looking at a tilted image. I used a hand-held camera meter to make sure all areas of the photo were evenly lit. Here are other details that
Photo 1: An Introduction to the Art of Photography can help with:
- Lighting, including studio strobes, umbrellas, and soft boxes
- Aperture priority (I used f/16 for this image, as the candy was on a relatively shallow surface)
- Light meter: I metered off of the camera for a middle gray exposure, but I also bracketed my exposures.
And what about post production? Not much to Photoshop here. I just used the Spot Healing Brush tool to clean up a few crumbs of candy.
